Reader Linda sent this in after seeing this fedora on Blair Edie of Atlantic-Pacific blog (see post HERE). This hat from J Crew retails for $178.

Anyone know if the band on the Target version is removable?

Actually you can remove it. It's stitched on loosely in half a dozen spots, but there is one spot w/ a little glue. You can carefully pick it off; it may not be perfect but it's not noticable.
one thing worth noting - the target hat is soft and floppy, not stiff like you would expect a fedora to be.
Thanks yellowdog - I snipped my band off quite easily, and mine didn't have a glue spot! Love the hat. It's pretty damn close to J.Crew. And I don't mind that it's soft - it holds its structure on the head quite nicely.
