"I'm going to Paris and London this Summer for the first time with my husband for our 1st anniversary. I want to look chic, but comfortable while in Europe. Since I've never been that far out of the country before, I'm not sure what to expect (nor do I want to look too out of place. I want to sight-see without looking like the typical "tourist") :)
If you have any suggestions on what to wear, please let me know. Thanks!"
Here are some of the ideas I came up with after looking at fashion blogs like this one, this one, and this one - I tried to do layers so she could add or remove pieces depending on the weather that day. Click on any photo for more information...
Casual Options
(Note:the flats I chose are a little more expensive, but I thought the Air technology in the Cole Haan flats would be more comfortable for walking around all day):
If you prefer to do a sundress or a romper, here are some great options (I tossed in some lightweight linen cardigans to give you some coverage/warmth if it's a chilly day).
Evening out options:
Both of these dresses would be easy to pack and will give you an elegant evening look!
Accessories:
I tried to include accessories that would go with any of the above outfits, as well as a couple large hobo style bag options.
Have any readers out there been to (or live in) Europe and want to share style advice with Janelle? Any other suggestions would be fantastic, please comment below!

Everything looks really cute! As an American living in England, I completely agree with layers and consider a light trench coat. Unfortunately, you can't count on dry, warm weather here, even in the summer.
Thank you so much for your advice! I love everything you have suggested! And thank you, Pamela, for your added advice. :) I hope to read more comments about some new suggestions. Thanks, again!
On top of that, when you are hot avoid cargo shorts and oversized T-shirts! Go for more whimsical stuff and always accessorize. A good place to shop when in Europe that is cheap but great looking is Zara. Finally, thank you so much for wanting to blend in Janelle! We are invaded by loud tourists looking weird ;) PS don't forget ordering salads the way Europeans would do it (ie as a side dish, NOT before the entree).
I agree about layers! I have a tendency to get cold, so I layer when I'm on the plane and have a sweater (lightweight) with me. I went to Paris about four years ago, but it was in April--gets a bit chilly. Packing items that don't wrinkle like the dresses Jen had mentioned, is always a good bet.
Also, I had a nice scarf/pashina that I used quite often, and it gave it a boost of color to my outfits. I wore comfortable flats most of the time since we walked a lot and took the Metro. We were only there for a week, but I only brought a small carryon bag and a backpack--so I really had to think about the outfits and mix and match. :D
Oh, I have Paris-envy! I do miss it! We are planning to go again next year, so I love this blog topic on it! Have fun!
